Pre-Surgery Information for Dental Procedures

 The night before the procedure:

  • You may feed your pet up until 8 pm. Please do not offer any food or treats after 8 pm.

  • Water may be left down all night and morning.

  • Please give all medications the night before the procedure.

The morning of the procedure:

  • Remember no food or treats! This is important and reduces the risk of vomiting.

  • If your pet is taking medications, please check with our office regarding administration of medications prior to the procedure and anesthesia.

  • Water is always allowed.

  • Please take all dogs for a walk so they have an opportunity to use the bathroom.

  • Please allow 10-15 minutes for check-in once you arrive at the clinic.

Pre-surgical bloodwork

Pre-surgical bloodwork is required for all dental procedures.  If your pet has had bloodwork within the last 2 months this may be sufficient, but in some cases, the veterinarian may want to repeat bloodwork on the day of surgery.

The bloodwork will help ensure there are no pre-existing health conditions that we need to be aware of and monitor during surgery.

Home Time

Most surgeries last 3-4 hours, and pets will be ready to go home once they are recovered from the anesthesia.  We will give you a call when your pet’s procedure is completed. Pick up time will be based on how quickly they recover from anesthesia.  If you are looking for an update, please feel free to call the office at any time.

Please call us if you have any questions.
