Pre-Surgery Information
The night before the procedure
You may feed your pet up until 8 pm. Please do not offer and food or treats after 8 pm.
Water may be left down all night and morning.
Please keep cats indoors the night before so that you know what they might be eating and ensure they are home in the morning.
The morning of the procedure
Remember no food or treats! This is important and reduces the risk of vomiting.
Water is always allowed.
Please take all dogs for a walk so they have an opportunity to use the bathroom.
Pre-surgical bloodwork
When you drop off, you will be offered pre-surgical bloodwork. This is optional for all pets under 1 year but mandatory for all mature pets over 1 year of age. It is strongly recommended to do bloodwork prior to anesthesia in all patients. It is what our veterinarians recommend. Preanesthetic bloodwork helps assess organ function and identify any underlying conditions that could increase your pet’s risk during surgery.
Microchip, IV Fluids and Pain Medication
All pets that have not been previously microchipped will receive a complimentary microchip during routine spay and neuter surgeries. All patients will automatically receive IV fluid therapy and pain medication during surgery, as well as pain medication to go home with after surgery.
Home Time
We will give you a phone call when your pet’s procedure is completed to arrange a pick-up time based on their recovery. You can typically expect your pet to be with us for 3-4 hours on the day of their surgery.
If you have any questions regarding the surgery, please feel free to call the clinic at any time.
